KENYA IN POOL B: Paul Treu’s boys drawn with SA, Wales and Amercan Samoa

Kenya have been drawn in Pool B for the season-opening Gold Coast Sevens taking place at the Cbus Super Stadium in Gold Coast, Australia on October 11-12.

The Kenyans, who will feature in their local tournament, the Safaricom Sevens slated for 26-28 September at the Safaricom Stadium in Nairobi, have been drawn alongside South Africa, Wales and Samoa.

Avan Lee, IRB’s General Manager for Sevens said: “The 2014/15 HSBC Sevens World Series promises to be the most exciting season of Sevens to date. With Olympic qualification at stake, all teams will want to start well in the Gold Coast.

“Reigning Series champions New Zealand and Commonwealth Games winners South Africa might start as favourites but a number of teams like Fiji, England, Australia and Canada are also desperate to gain direct qualification into the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Gold Coast Sevens Pools:

Pool A: New Zealand, Samoa, France, Japan; Pool B: South Africa, Kenya, Wales, American Samoa; Pool C: Fiji, Australia, Scotland, Portugal Pool D: England, Canada, Argentina, USA.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Rugby Union has received a ticket allocation from the International Rugby Board for the RWC 2015 taking place in England and Wales, the KRU said in a statement yesterday.

The ticket allocation is as follows: Pool Matches -10, Quarter Finals -10, Semi Finals - 10, Bronze Final -10, Grand Finale - 10.

The Union urged those interested in attending the matches, to express their interest by contacting the Kenya Rugby Union by September 30 2014 regarding ticket prices and matches you desire to watch.

Kenya lost out narrowly during the qualification for the World Cup in Mauritius.

Meanwhile, the Union asked institutions to book corporate tents for the Safaricom Safari Sevens tournament.

KRU President, Mwangi Muthee, said there are limited corporate tents in and around the stadium. The event will take place at the Safaricom Sports Centre, Kasarani, for the second year.

He also urged fans to turn out in large numbers for the tournament next weekend. The event has become very popular on the local and regional sports calendar.
