Kitengela residents up in arms over demolitions

Kitengela, Kenya: Business almost came to a standstill in Kitengela, Kajiado County, as residents protested a move by the county government to demolish houses and structures said to be built on road reserves.

Those affected almost stopped the exercise, claiming they were being discriminated against. However, County Road Cabinet Secretary Dickson Ntikoisa, who was supervising the exercise that targeted several storey buildings that had been earmarked for demolition three months ago, said none of the structures on road reserves and public land would be spared.
