Three terrorists killed, 11 KDF soldiers injured in Nairobi's Westgate assault

NAIROBI; KENYA: Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has reported that three terrorists have been killed and 11 Kenyan soldiers injured in the Westgate operation that has lasted for over 48 hours.

This follows a sporadic and persistent gunfire which was heard at the Westgate Mall, 4pm Kenyan time.

“Regrettably, 11 KDF soldiers have been injured in this operation and are receiving medical attention at the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital,” said KDF in their Twitter handle.

The 11 soldiers injured in operation are now receiving treatment at the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital.

Interior ministry also reported through its Twitter handle @InteriorKE that they have arrested more than 10 individuals for questioning in relation to the attack and fire-fighters have contained the fire at Westgate Mall.

KDF also reported that over 200 civilians have been rescued with 65 receiving treatment in various hospitals and 62 have been confirmed dead.

At the same time, the military said chances of any terrorists sneaking and escaping were very slim adding that KDF troops have sealed all possible escape routes.
