Nairobi, Kenya: Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi has announced that all public primary schools be re-opened on Monday next week.

Wednesday, the cabinet secretary ordered an indefinite closure of schools following the over three-week teachers' strike.

Noting that the teachers’ strike disrupted learning activities, Kaimenyi said that the government will look into ways of addressing the issue of time lost.

"Government will hold a key stakeholders meeting on Tuesday 23 July 2013 in order to agree on how to redress the matter expeditiously,"  he added.

In a statement, the secretary said that the government is committed to ensuring that there are no further disruptions to the schools calendar adding that KCPE and KCSE examinations will be held on schedule.

On the same day that Kaimenyi ordered schools closed, Knut Chair Wilson Sossion called off the teachers' strike after striking a pay deal in a meeting with Deputy President William Ruto.
