CORD leaders to unveil Kethi Kilonzo for by-election

Makueni, Kenya: CORD alliance will Monday unveil Kethi Kilonzo as its flag bearer for the Makueni Senate seat in the July 22 by-election.

Kethi will be unveiled at a rally in Wote town to contest the seat left vacant after the death of her father Mutula Kilonzo. Sunday, there was excitement in Wote as residents awaited the event.

“Today will be a big day for the residents of Makueni County as the candidate of their choice will be unveiled,” said Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo.

Top CORD leaders led by Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula are expected to present Kethi to the electorate at a rally to be held in Wote town. Maanzo on Sunday said the CORD entourage will stop in Machakos and other towns before later holding a major rally.

Residents have overwhelmingly welcomed Kethi’s acceptance to run for the seat and promised to vote for her in honour of her late father.

Political parties are expected to present their candidates for clearance between 26 and 27.  Meanwhile, Machakos County Senator Johnson Muthama has lamented widening gap between the rich and the poor.

Muthama challenged the Jubilee government to initiate programmes that would bridge the gap and ensure equality.

“The Government should strive to deliver on its pre-election pledges so that Kenyans can benefit,” said Muthama. He was speaking at AIC Bomani in Machakos town during a harambee in aid of the church.
