Uhuru cleared to contest by IEBC

NAIROBI, KENYA: Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta who is Jubilee alliance presidential candidate has been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest for presidency in the March 4 general elections.

Uhuru, accompanied by his running mate former Eldoret North MP William Ruto, was awarded the official nomination certificate by IEBC chair Issack Hassan on Wednesday morning.

The DPM was accompanied by Narc party leader Charity Ngilu, former MPs Najib Balala, Beth Mugo and URP chairman Francis Ole Kaparo.

Speaking afterwards Uhuru said he was confident that Jubilee will win the elections in the first round.

Uhuru said he will respect the outcome of the election as it will reflect the will of Kenyans.

He said his alliance will carry peaceful campaigns and added he was confident that IEBC will conduct a free and fair election.
