Former minister booed for politicking at funeral

Former Cabinet Minister Noah Wekesa was booed by mourners when he tried to exchange words with a Catholic priest at a burial ceremony.

Father Crispin Werunga of Sitatunga Parish snatched the microphone from Dr Wekesa after he engaged in politics against the priest's directive. The incident happened in Kapsara village during the burial of Roger Kiangasi who passed away in the US last month.

The priest instructed politicians to keep off politics but the former minister ignored the order and indulged in politics prompting the latter to step in and stop him.

"I told you not to bring politics here but you have gone ahead to introduce it. Your time is up and I'm not going to let you continue and waste time," the priest told Wekesa.

Wekesa stood to his ground arguing that he is a respected politician and he has the right to speak politics.

"Father you have no right to stop me from addressing mourners. This body belongs to us," Wekesa argued amid heckling from mourners.

The priest managed to snatch the microphone away from the former minister despite his resistance.

A humiliated Wekesa walked away and took his seat next to Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Janet Nangabo.

Father Werunga took control of the programme and invited Ms Nangabo to address mourners before inviting Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
