Seven students have been killed and 10 hospitalised after a fire broke out at Moi Girls School in Kibra Constituency, Nairobi.

The fire broke out at around 2:00 a.m. last night, razing a dormitory and investigations are underway to establish the cause.

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary and also Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi said 10 are still hospitalised wile seven have been confirmed dead.

It is said that most of the casualties were as a result of a stampede and not the fire itself.

Rescuers were able to get to the school in 2 hours according to some witnesses.
