Something does not add up — Family of officer who worked at DP’s office demands answers

The family of Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei, an Administration Police Officer who was found dead at his home in Imara Daima, is demanding answers from the government.

Speaking to KTN News on Friday, his brother Emmanuel Kenei said that the family received the sad news via radio and struggled to come to terms with it.

Emmanuel stated that he was with his younger brother last week when he visited their home in Nakuru and picked his son from school.

He said that Kipyegon looked cheerful and did not look troubled.

“I talked to him on Tuesday and he was not troubled at all. We are surprised that reports indicate he committed suicide.

“As a family we cannot buy that…he did not mention to us that he was troubled,” he said.

Adding: “Proper investigations should be conducted to get to the bottom of this. We need to know the truth. If there was a hand involved, let it be revealed.”

Emmanuel also said that his brother intended to marry later this year and had made all the necessary arrangements.

He described the deceased as a jovial soul who was shrewd and brought joy to the family.

His father Mzee Chesang said he was deeply saddened by the news and urged the government to get to the bottom of the matter.

Kipyegon’s body was found in his house in Villa Franca Estate, Imara Daima. Witnesses said he had a bullet wound in the head and his gun was found lying next to his body.

Police who arrived at the scene at first described the incident as suicide and took the body to the mortuary.

They, however, returned it to the scene after learning that he was a person of interest in the fake arms probe.

Following the incident, the DCI boss, George Kinoti, who was on his way from Mombasa yesterday, detoured to the scene and summoned officers from the homicide department to take charge.

A house girl who has been washing the officer’s clothes told police that she became concerned when she did not find his clothes outside the house for cleaning.
