Bereaved families for the deceased Kakamega pupils to be accorded free legal assistance by LSK

A body that deals with championing justice in Kenya, Law Society of Kenya popularly known as LSK, has declared that it will help the bereaved families for Kakamega fatalities to see that justice is served.

This is after Monday's disturbance, which occurred at Kakamega Primary School, leaving at least 14 pupils dead, and scores injured.

Via a statement issued on Tuesday by the Law Society of Kenya, LSK president lamented the occurrence that occasioned unforeseen deaths for innocent souls.

"I urge the government to act in speed and in the best interest of the welfare of the children and probe the matter to its core and come up with a plausible way forward which will ensure that such tragedy never happens again," urged the LSK president Mr. Allen Gichuhi.

Mr. Gichuhi also announced that the affected families would be accorded counseling by professionals. Following Monday's evening stampede, the Education Cs Prof. George Magoha ordered a temporary closure on Tuesday upon the school until next Monday, pending investigations.

"We have that the children should rest for the rest of the week. The school is expected to re-open on Monday after a thorough assessment," noted CS Magoha.
