Drama as police beat up MCA before arresting him

Residents of Kamasian Ward in Kericho County are in shock after police officers roughed up and arrested their area Member of County Assembly(MCA)

According to the police, the MCA, identified as Philip Rono, was arrested for obstruction and attempt to resist arrest.

It took the intervention of Kericho County Governor Paul Chepkwony and a number of MCA’s who stormed the police station to secure his release.


Residents of the area took the opportunity to decry insecurity in the area and accused the police officers of laxity in their work.

The MCA further stated that he was harassed by two police officers as he attempted to exit the county assembly parking yard before he was arrested.

“Police wanaendelea kutumia force for nothing na wanaendelea kutisha watu na bastola, in fact walikua wanakimbia kutisha everybody” said the MCA.

Loosely translating to, “The police are using force for no reason, they constantly threaten people with pistols, if fact they were running to threaten everyone”.

The incident took place on the night of Thursday, January 16, 2020.

On the same day, residents of Majengo area in Kamukunji Constituency demonstrated after a police officer allegedly shot a young man dead.
