DCI warns on emails offering jobs

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, January 17, 2020, warned Kenyans to be aware of online fraudsters.

Through their twitter account, the DCI asked job seekers to beware of fraudsters who pose as employers to defraud desperate Kenyans.

They explained that online fraudsters use emails to offer jobs in exchange for money and stated that the emails should be taken as spam.

“Beware of the emails, which offer jobs in exchange for money, such e-mails are spam. No organization/ company ever asks for money to work for them” warned the DCI.

Kenya’s economy lost Sh29.5 billion to cybercrime and related activities in 2018 as criminals stepped up attacks on banks, Saccos and government agencies.

Last year, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) published the names and faces of more than 100 individuals it said were linked to the theft of millions of shillings from several commercial banks in Kenya

According to research done by cybersecurity firm Serianu, while more companies are reporting cybercrime attempts and even losses, many cite the lack of adequate personnel as the biggest challenge to complying with industry standards.
