Likoni tragedy: My husband told me his late father had ordered him to go to a well in Kitui

Just days after John Mutinda speeded to his death at the Likoni Channel, his widow Ruth Mueni has revealed what happened prior to the tragedy.

In an interview with a local website, Mueni refuted claims that her late husband had a mental illness and went ahead to give details of a dream that the deceased had just a few minutes to 4am.

“On Saturday, a few minutes to 4am, I was woken up by my husband’s strange screams. He was shouting: ‘Siji, siji [I am not coming, I am not coming]!’

“I moved closer to him, and realised he was dreaming. I shook him in order to wake him up from the bad dream. He, however, did not wake up immediately,” she said.

Mueni then asked about the details of the dream and her husband revealed that he had been ordered by his late father to meet him at a well in Kitui.

“After a few minutes, his screams faded, and he woke up by himself. He, thereafter, told me that — in his dream –, his late father, who died in 2012, had ordered him to go to a well in Kitui Central, where they would meet.

“I asked him to join me in prayers, but he declined, saying his father wanted to see him urgently, and that he couldn’t waste another minute in the house,” she narrated.

Mutinda then insisted that he wanted to leave and drove off in haste.

Contrary to initial reports that the two had an argument, Mueni stated that they were in good terms and her husband was not the violent type.

She called on the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) to erect a barrier near the ramp to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

Mutinda’s body was removed from the car on Saturday morning and his car was retrieved a few hours later.
