Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge became the first man to run a marathon under two hours after he completed the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in 1:59:40.
Kenyans online were full of praise for the marathon great who ensured his name was etched in history and some proposed that he should be given a proper homecoming when he jets back home.
Just two days after the nation celebrated Moi Day, a number of ‘patriotic’ netizens called on the government to declare a public holiday ‘in the spirit of oneness’ with Kipchoge.
We all know what Interior CS Fred Matiang’i will say about it.
Activist Boniface Mwangi also said it was just right that the nation gave Kipchoge the respect he deserves.
“We should line up the entire road from the airport to Nairobi CBD to welcome #eliudkipchoge.
“Receive him like the HERO he is,” wrote Mwangi.

We should have Eliud Kipchoge day, a day dedicated to celebrating all our athletes. That totally makes sense as a public holiday.
