SUMMARY

According to Ruto, the problem we have in this country is that of leaders who refuse to accept defeat

You will not see me inciting my supporters to hold demonstrations or participating in shambolic swearing-in ceremonies, he said

During a recent interview on a vernacular radio station, Deputy President William Ruto stated that he would accept defeat if he lost the 2022 General Election.

According to Ruto, the problem we have in this country is that of leaders who refuse to accept defeat. You will not see me inciting my supporters to hold demonstrations or participating in shambolic swearing-in ceremonies, he said.

Now, some people would interpret this as a political gimmick because Ruto's allies insist that the ticket is reserved for him.

There is nothing wrong with politicians, particularly those eyeing the presidency, using all the tricks in the book to woo voters. But if I were the DP, I would advise my allies to keep off succession politics and focus on helping the President to realise his Big Four agenda.

In the eyes of many, the presidency is comprised of two individuals; the President and his deputy. So if Uhuru fails to deliver, you would not expect Kenyans to vote for Ruto.
