What Police Inspector told Asbel Kiprop after meeting him following disturbing social media posts

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Tuesday 30 April met with athlete champion Asbel Kiprop at the National Police service and recognized him as ‘our hero’.

“Chief Inspector .@KipropAsbel is our hero. We must never forget him,” read the caption on the post.

The meeting comes days after Kiprop posted a series of disturbing posts on his social media handles.

In the posts, Kiprop spoke his mind on the decision by International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Disciplinary Tribunal to ban him for four years due to a doping offence.

Among the disturbing posts made by Kiprop, the athlete threated the police that he was going to use his gun to earn justice for himself.

“I pray to National Police Service to dismiss me now. Before I use their machinery to earn myself Justice. Kindly. IAAF come take your medals,” tweeted Kiprop.

His messages got so many Kenyans worried and some even offered to help him out. The posts have since been deleted from the athlete’s social media platforms.

Mutyambai, during the meeting, said that he will personally follow up with Kiprop’s issue and assured all officers that he will take care of their safety and security.

"I am here to take care of all officers as they provide safety and security to all, I included. Let us share what we are going through to avoid what we have seen where, sadly, officers have had to take away their lives. I am personally following up on Asbel Kiprop's case," said Mutyambai.
