Njoro boys students detained three days in attempted arson probe

A Nakuru Court has given police three days to conclude investigations into an arson attempt by students.

Seven students of Njoro Boys reportedly attempted to burn a dormitory where 70 of their colleagues were sleeping.

Senior Principal Magistrate Faith Munyi on Monday allowed the police to detain the students linked to the incident that happened on the evening of March 16.

She, however, ordered the investigative officer to file a progress report after three days so that the court can decide whether police will continue holding the students or not.

“The students will also be allowed to contact their relatives, parents, attorneys and the investigative officer,” ruled Ms. Munyi.

The seven are suspected to have set a dormitory on fire.

The incident led to the indefinite closure of the school.

The officers who arrested the students on Sunday requested for more time to conclude investigations into the incident.

The students were allegedly reacting against the management's high-handedness.
