Former Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo has urged state agencies to involve youths in the country building matters to prevent ongoing radicalisation.

Kabogo says focus on youth is crucial because of their large demographic size and socio-economic growth. He was reacting to terror attack on Riverside drive where dozens of people were killed and scores injured.

He says a practical remedy would be having the vulnerable youths working in tandem with policy makers and creating a multi-layered plan that takes on all of the forces that lead to radicalization.

Kabogo advices security institutions, civilian government agencies, and civil society organizations should discuss collaborative approaches to engaging youths.

“There is need is need to step up the level of work that brings youths together irrespective of  ethnic group to ensure they are not converted as a tool for destruction but something that helps construction, “he said.

He suggests education, vocational training and creation of jobs as slayer of radicalisation even in the areas perceived to be terrorists’ fertile grounds in Kenya.

“Outreach movement through political participation, communities, and Cultural activities, young people become familiar with advocacy and build skills to think independently, to reflect critically on extreme narratives” he says.

Following the attack the government expressed commitment of building a new Kenya that is prosperous, secure, and inclusive, and in which every Kenyan has an opportunity to thrive.
