Moses Kuria speaks after Waititu sends his brother on leave

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Thursday spoke out after his brother John Ngigi was sent on compulsory leave by Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

Speaking during the memorial service of Equity co-founder Peter Kagema in Nairobi, the legislator lamented the fact that running the county had been politicized.

“He (my brother) got terminated at 8pm last night, just a few days after our encounter with Waititu in Thika and he was not even given time to hand over.

“We need to build a culture of strengthening institutions of removing politics from the running of administrations and the civil service and the public service and to make professional our management of public affairs,” he remarked.

Ngigi, who was serving as the Chief Officer in charge of Agriculture, Crop Production, Irrigation and Marketing in Kiambu County, was sent on a 30-day leave on Tuesday in unclear circumstances.

According to the letter seen by Ureport, Waititu asked Ngigi to immediately handover duties to the Chief Officer Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Services since he had not gone on leave for a while.

“You are therefore advised to proceed for your annual 30 days leave w.e.f (with effect from) Thursday the 3rd January 2019. You will be required to resume duty on Tuesday the 14th February, 2019.

“In this regard, handover your duties and any other county property, tools or equipment in your custody to the Chief Officer Livestock, Fisheries, Veterinary Services,” read the letter in part.

Recently, Kuria also ruffled a few feathers when he took a jab at President Uhuru Kenyatta, claiming that Kiambu overwhelmingly voted for him but development projects were being launched in other areas.

“As we usher in 2019, think very seriously. Your job is to vote after which we reward other regions with development which is not very smart,” he said.
