Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is never far from drama. Recently, Sonko visited victims of Nairobi’s Nyama Villa estate’s demolitions.

While it was good for the governor to spare time to empathise with the victims, the insults he hurled at a man said to have been behind the demolitions painted him in bad light.

Some of the unpalatable words he uttered were an insult to the office he holds and hundreds of thousands of city residents who elected him in last year’s General Election.

Some may say Sonko got emotional on seeing the poor hurt by the person who had laid claim to the disputed land. However, he must learn to control himself, as a leader.

Sonko must tame his tongue. Self-control is one of the qualities every leader should possess. Perhaps Sonko, and indeed all the leaders who have been vulgar, needs some training on etiquette, or people will not respect him.
