Chaos mars murder victim's burial in Migori

There was drama in Migori County after a section of mourners disrupted a burial ceremony and accused the widow of having knowledge of her husband’s death in Warisia village, Suna East.

The deceased went missing in November before his decomposing body was recovered in a thicket in Gwasi Hills, Mbita, Homa Bay.

Warisia village elder Joseph Otieno said they could not trace the man for two weeks.

“Drama started when the sisters of the widow were given a chance to speak, and they challenged their in-laws to come out clean on the killing,” said Mr Otieno.

A brother of the deceased, Samuel Otieno, said they were shocked by their sisters-in-law's claims.

“My brother died a painful death and I never expected such a challenge against us, this is quite unfortunate,” said Otieno.

The Catholic Priest who was to preside over the burial left in a huff after rowdy mourners poured illicit brew on him.

The area assistant chief said relatives from both families were trading accusations over the man's killing.

Migori OCPD Patrick Macharia said that no report had been made about the incident.
