Senior police officer goes missing, probe on

Police are investigating how and why a senior police officer has gone missing from his place of work without permission.

Detectives have launched investigations to establish the whereabouts of Kileleshwa Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Chief Inspector Mathenge Mithamo who was last seen on Saturday, November 3, evening.

The family reported to his senior that the officer could not be reached and was neither at his place of work nor his residence in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

He had not contacted anyone since then to declare where he is and his mission.

Mithamo’s official police radio and one of his mobile phones were, however, found in his house while one of his phones has gone unanswered since.

Nairobi police boss Joseph ole Tito said they are dealing with the issue internally.

Some of Mithamo’s colleagues have been questioned over the incident. The family was also questioned and asked if they had argued before the incident happened.

Mithamo was recently transferred from Eastleigh police post to Kileleshwa as the OCS.

A police brief on the issue, however, stated that the officer had absented himself from duty without leave. That is the official language that the service uses on officers missing from duty.

“Kindly be informed that ...Chief Inspector George Mathenge Mithamo OCS Kileleshwa has not been seen since yesterday 4/11/2018. He was supposed to be on duty today 5/11/2018 by 0800 Hrs but he did not turn up. His whereabouts is not known and his mobile phone is off,” read part of the brief.
