Kenyans are a worried lot over religious affiliations in Jamhuri High School

Kenyans on social media have become a worried lot over the religious affiliations at the Jamhuri High School, where several were injured after a section of the students protested on alleged discrimination on the basis of religion by the school's administration.

Seven students were stabbed during the clashes. The school's principal, Fred Awuor, was also injured during the incident.

Investigations are still underway to determine how the students managed to get into the school's premises with the knives.

The Nairobi county commander Japheth Koome said the police are already investigating the matter as the injured students were rushed to the hospital.

Here are some of the reactions from Kenyans on social media;

It's so devastating to see students at Jamhuri High School being divided on the grounds of religion,at the end of the day,the fact remains we have one religion but different versions of it.

Reverting is indeed part of Islamic teaching but that doesn’t mean that I as a Muslim would force a colleague to convert!!! Students from Jamhuri High school should know that Religion is preached by convincing not forcing!— Ahmed mohammed (@Kameshme1) January 24, 2018

The incident that happened last night at Jamhuri High School, Ngara, is so unfortunate. The fact is, Muslim students are called Al Shabaab and treated as refuses in their own home country because they are Muslims.
Stop lying about the actual fact of what happened.

Schools & colleges are meant to unite people with different beliefs and origins, but what's happened at "Jamhuri High School" shows the exact opposite. Will Matiangi's next reform bring Christian & Muslim sections in schools, just like JAB and Parallel students in universities?— Ndiany Okello (@NdianyOkello) January 24, 2018

The top management of Jamhuri High School should just resign. Jahmu has been a notorious school all my life. The level of indiscipline in this school is appalling. Now they are into radicalization, Muslim students stabbing Christian students? Who is behind it?

Why would Jamhuri High School students clash on religious grounds? Does it really matter whom you follow, whether you follow Allah's Mohammed, or Jesus Christ the son of Man, or Buddha or your African ancestors, or Donald Trump on Twitter, or even no one? I pity those boys!— Adipo Sidang' (@AdipoetryKE) January 24, 2018

If it is true that Muslim students are forcing their Christian counterparts to convert to Islam in Jamhuri High School, then that stupid, anti-Islamic and absurd.— SalmaanWizard (@SalmaanWizard) January 24, 2018

Students at Jamhuri High School are fighting and stubbing each other. Teachers and other students say "the Muslim students want the Christian students to convert into Islam or leave the institutions". 3 students have been stubbed and in critical condition.#uhurupark #jamuhuriHigh

The Jamhuri High School incident is not about religion but who the students take as their role models.— kipkoech mitei Rober (@MiteiRober) January 24, 2018

The Jamhuri High School incident could have been as a result of the students watching the MCAs solving their problems using kicks and blows and saw it as the right thing to do.

Sad to learn that a student clash at Jamhuri High school has resulted into several knife wounds in students. Story being, Muslim students attempted to force Christians to convert or leave the school. Totally bad levels of intolerance. pic.twitter.com/nsx1Td1q3c

Since when did our schools started experiencing Religious conflicts? If Jamhuri High School Students can fight and injure fellow students for religious reasons then we have a bigger problem than we are in currently.

Back then at Jamhuri High School we were one Muslim, Christians and Hindus dinned, study, worship, played, friendship, seat together. This not right we shouldn't allow radicalisation to enter into our children. #StopRadicalisarltion #JahmuWeAreOne https://t.co/6kQ0Z7C7Il pic.twitter.com/zcqYcimElp— Burberry Armstrong (@Burberrythevdj) January 24, 2018

The religious conflict in Jamhuri High School shouldn't be taken lightly at all, they need guidance and counseling to embrace & accept their diversities.— Mitine N'Ntari (@Kenkim_57) January 24, 2018

Everyone should stick to his/her religion because after all none is superior to the other. That section of students at Jamhuri High School who were involved in the altercation should be dismissed from school immediately. Don't entertain such nonsense people.— Lekishon Kimiriny™ (@Lekishon_Kim) January 24, 2018

"Jamhuri High School"

I honestly feel religious education should not be taught in school. This was put in place by our colonizers to ensure that we worship their God. They are gone and Kenya is an Independent country, Ban Religious Education!— Sarcasm at its best (@Naomi_Wango_) January 24, 2018

This is very scaring and quite a deep problem.
Jamhuri high school Islam students forcing X-tians to convert?? This is What leaders in our society teaching students.— Susan (@sucameSunjeh) January 24, 2018

This is one of the reasons I will always call for abolishment of RE subjects in our school. Muslims n Xtians fighting in Jamhuri High School. A unitary RE subject will bring unity amongst xtians n muslims n help curb terrorism by a very big margin. @FredMatiangi https://t.co/rmB3RYMvus— Alphaxard Ng'ang'a (@AlphaxardNganga) January 24, 2018

In the long term we can hope that religion will change the nature of man and reduce conflict. But history is not encouraging in this respect. The bloodiest wars in history have been religious wars. "Jamhuri High School"— james karicho (@hunkaricho) January 24, 2018

Today, we hear reports of students at Jamhuri High School in Nairobi having been fighting overnight. Muslim students trying to force Christians to convert to Islam by force. Religious intolerance within our schools. It's on the streets, all over.— Creck (@creckbuyonge) January 24, 2018

What is happening at "Jamhuri High School" is as a result of the precedent set late last year that intolerance, be it tribal, ethnic or religious, is okay. The students are simply taking cue from what has been happening among the so-called leaders, as sad as it may be.— StopSlavery, StopRacism (@ENyandong) January 24, 2018
