REVEALED: What Jose Mourinho secretly told Sanchez to convince him of joining Man United

Manchester United’s new no.7 Alexis Sanchez has explained how Jose Mourinho convinced him to choose the Red Devils over rivals and league leaders Manchester City.

In an exclusive interview with Manchester United TV (MUTV) immediately after he signed, Sanchez said that Mourinho was one of the reasons why he joined Man United, saying the manager had a title-winning history in Spain, Italy and England.

“He indicated it is important for the club for me to be here,” Sanchez told MUTV.

Sanchez also said that being given the iconic number 7 jersey previously worn by Man United legends including Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham got through to him as he felt like the club really valued whatever he was going to bring on the pitch.

“I also believe that the club itself cared about me joining and I got the impression that they were keen for me to come here and wear the No. 7 shirt. I think that also gets through to the player,” added the Chilean goal-scoring machine.

He went on to say that he moved to Old Trafford because Mourinho is a coach who likes to win.

From playing alongside Ozil and Lacazette, Sanchez will now don the Man United number 7 jersey playing alongside the likes of Pogba, Matic and Antony Martial.

Mourinho later praised Sanchez, referring to him as one of the ‘best attacking players in the world’ and that his qualities will be a great addition to the Red Devil’s young attacking duo.

“He will bring his ambition, drive and personality, qualities that make a Manchester United player and a player that makes the team stronger and the supporters proud of their club dimension and prestige,” said a delighted Mourinho.
