Mkhitaryan pens emotional late-night message to Man United fans after moving to Arsenal

Seven-time Armenian footballer of the year Henrikh Mkhitaryan completed his switch to Arsenal yesterday in a deal that saw Chile forward Alexis Sanchez move the other way.

After starting the season with five assists in 6 games, Mkhitaryan experienced a slump in form which saw him dropped from Jose Mourinho’s first team.

His move to Arsenal was a unique one – a straight swap that saw him replaced by Sanchez at Old Trafford.

‘Micki’, as he is known in Manchester, joined them two seasons ago from Borussia Dortmund where he had been named Player of the season twice.

He terms his move to Arsene Wenger’s side as a dream come true since he was once linked with a move to London before moving to Man United. He has openly expressed his love for Arsenal, saying their playing style attracts him and that he had always wanted to play for them.

He penned an emotional tribute to Man United fans late in the night, thanking them for all the memories he had while donning the club’s jersey.

Here is Micki’s message:

“I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Manchester United players and staff and especially the fans for your love, passion and support. I enjoyed having the honour of contributing to the history of your great club by winning the Europa League cup. I will always cherish the memory of that moment and that match. And of my Boxing Day scorpion kick and of hearing the song “Whoa Mkhitaryan...” every time I stepped onto the pitch. I could name many more memories, I enjoyed every moment we shared and cheered together. At this stage of my career, I simply have to enjoy myself on the pitch and play. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and the best of luck to all of you! Life goes on…”
