Moses Kuria evokes reactions after saying Raila's swearing-in has been cancelled

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s remarks after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was freed on January 21 from Parklands Police Station have triggered emotions. Mr. Owino had been arrested on January 19 and spent two nights in the cells for alleged assault. He was released after Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja gave a personal surety to produce him at the Milimani Law Court on Monday at 8 am.

Mr.Owino was arrested on Friday afternoon outside Parliament Buildings after an alleged CCTV footage of him assaulting a parking attendant at an entertainment joint in Westlands, Nairobi, emerged on social media.

Mr. Sakaja, who was elected on a Jubilee ticket said the assault accusations were petty and criticized the police for politicising the criminal justice system. He joined National Super Alliance (NASA) Coalition legislators including Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, Mathare legislator Anthony Oluoch, Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and former Embakasi South MP Irshad Sumra at the police station.

According to him, political preferences do not matter when it comes to human rights since Mr. Babu Owino is a leader, a Kenyan who has rights and deserves dignity.

Following the release, many Kenyans had much to say about Sakaja’s move since Mr.Owino is a vocal leader of the opposition.

Not one to be left behind, Moses Kuria on his Facebook page said that Babu Owino’s release was a result of a negotiated deal between NASA leader Raila Odinga and Sakaja. He said that the deal meant the cancellation of the forthcoming inauguration of Raila.

Raila is set to be sworn in as The People’s President on January 30. This is the third time NASA supporters are awaiting his inauguration after the postponement on November 28 and December 12 respectively.
