Quit PR and clean up the CBD, Nairobians order Sonko

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is once again on the spotlight as Nairobi residents ask him to clear the CBD of hawkers.

In the past recent weeks, Kenyans who access the city on a daily basis have complained on social media of the increase of hawkers in town.

The hawkers who were allowed by the Governor to sell their wares as early as 7am crowd the streets and make them impassible.

Kenyans showed their displeasure by posting numerous pictures of hawkers on the streets.

Kidero made Nairobi CBD one big bus stop. Sonko is determined to make it an open air market. But Kenyans love mediocrity.A dose of their own— T.H.I.N.K Inc (@mmwaurah) November 2, 2017

CBD is full of hawkers and half the number want to beat you up when you jump over their stuff. Where am I supposed to pass?

They should removed from the CBD ASAP.They are our fellow Kenyans but the Nairobi cbd is not designated for hawking.— Kamau nganga alex (@Kamaungangaale3) November 3, 2017

The Governor earlier said that lack of cooperation from city council askaris was a huge hurdle since the askaris take bribes from hawkers instead of kicking them out.

He caused another waves of reactions on Wednesday, November 8 when he said he was working on a humane way of relocating the hawkers.

For the time being, my administration is working on means and ways that will ensure a progressive and humane relocation of hawkers to designated streets and lanes where they can freely do their businesses without obstructing other people as well as other business owners. pic.twitter.com/dYlIEyVWX3— Mike Sonko (@MikeSonko) November 8, 2017

Many Nairobians asked him to stop tweeting and act while others reminding him that hawkers never stick to designated areas.

Here are comments on his tweet;

@MikeSonko there must be a library of solutions by successive govts. Just refer to those and implement. The millions who walk these streets daily don't approve of their streets being turned into a hop skip n jump jungle. Crack the whip.

For now it's too chaotic. Every day there are more hawkers coming in to town. I believe this is a time bomb. If they settle in town for long, it will be impossible to relocate all of them! Just like Matatus, they now own their spaces in town #Hawkers— David Wanjagi ???????? (@OneJagi) November 8, 2017

CBD is too small for such plans Mheshimiwa @MikeSonko . Perhaps its periphery. Otherwise CBD will turn to be like Gikomba/Muthurwa.— Muriuki Kelvin (@kelvinK6) November 8, 2017

The best job description that fits you is PR officer..— arnold mussa (@arnoldmussa) November 8, 2017

Nairobi hawkers are like flies...you chase them away and a few seconds later they swam right back again...— Mwangi K (@Jefitha1945) November 8, 2017
