Mutahi Ngunyi gives stern warning to Jubilee after Raila withdraws from presidential race

Popular for his ‘Tyranny of number’ theory in the run-up to the 2007 presidential election, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has warned the Jubilee Party of against being happy because of Raila Odinga’s sudden withdrawal from the presidential race.

The National Super Alliance flagbearer on October 10th 2017 announced that he withdrew his candidature from the race, saying that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission stalled on reforms which would have been crucial in conducting a free, fair and credible poll.

On his Twitter, Ngunyi warned Jubilee not to celebrate Raila’s withdrawal, saying that they did not see the Supreme Court ruling coming and that they should understand the former Prime Minister’s scheme.

Jubilee DID NOT see the MARAGA Scheme. They SHOULD not CELEBRATE before they UNDERSTAND the Raila WITHDRAWAL Scheme. It is URGLY!— Mutahi Ngunyi (@MutahiNgunyi) October 10, 2017

The Supreme Court of September 1st 2017, nullified the August 8th presidential election and ordered for a fresh election within 60 days, a ruling that angered most Jubilee Party members, including the President who publicly slammed the Supreme Court.

The political analyst goes on to say that on 1st November, NASA will move to Supreme Court, arguing that Uhuru Kenyatta’s mandate expired, leading to a caretaker president being installed by the Chief justice David Maraga.

Ngunyi also argued that Raila’s withdrawal would only be valid if he used form 24A.

Raila’s withdrawal has sparked arguments between lawyers all over Kenya, with most saying that it is unlikely Uhuru is declared president after the ODM leader’s withdrawal.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission stated that they had received Odinga’s letter.
