Ruto: IEBC Chair is working with our competitors

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati had dismissed claims by Deputy President William Ruto that he has been holding night meetings with NASA leaders.

During an interview on Citizen TV on 10 September, DP Ruto made the remarks after Chebukati memo to IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba concerning the repeat election ordered by the Supreme Court on Friday 1 September 2017.

DP Ruto said that the memo Chebukati sent mirrors what their competitiors, NASA, talk about and that is why he concluded the IEBC Chair and NASA have night meetings.

“We have serious problems with this memo. This memo to the best of our knowledge mirrors what our competitors have been talking about and that is why I am saying there are night meetings between Chebukati and out competitors… and if what I am saying is not true, Chebukati should come out and say so,” said William Ruto.

“The same issues that were raised by our competitors in every step of the way are the same issues that are in this memo,” he added.

DP Ruto believes that IEBC Chair is working with NASA ahead of the repeat presidential elections scheduled to take place on 17 October.

William Ruto also made the same remarks, that IEBC Chairman Chebukati is holding night meetings with NASA, on 9 September at Uhuru Park Nairobi, during the Jubilee presidential campaign. Chebukati on his twitter handle however, dismissed the claims dubbing them as ‘baseless and reckless’.

IEBC officials will on 11 September hold a retreat meeting in Naivasha to sort out their differences before the repeat presidential elections. The retreat is meant to bring harmony between IEBC Chairman Chebukati and IEBC CEO Chiloba after the memo caused tension between the two.
