Following party nominations that were described by pundits as shambolic, the emergence of independent candidates was encouraged, prompting many nomination losers to immediately register as independents.

Inter party divisions due to disagreements during nominations was evident, with majority defecting to the opposite party or running alone.


Such cases include the Nairobi Jubilee party nominations, which saw Peter Kenneth lose and later run as an independent candidate.

A former minister from Rift Valley who lost in party nominations but is running as an independent candidate is blaming his opponents for what happened during a rally presided over by Deputy President William Ruto.

The MP was forced to cut short her speech as the crowd shouted and jeered.

The MP has said his rivals hired youths and gave them instructions to shout her down and embarrass her.
