How I turned music studies into a lucrative career, could bring back my lost mum

Cyrus Omondi, a music graduate from Maseno University has not only proved the tenacity of becoming a spoken word artist and a musician but also the ability to be his own company CEO.

Cyrus alias C.E.O Gud Lyf started out as a rapper back in Kondele Primary in Kisumu. His first performance was in Ukwala high school during a talent show.

"In September 2012, I joined Maseno University to pursue music as a career .In my first year I discovered the passion of spoken word and that's how the bigger dream began. From aspiring to be a rapper to dreaming of becoming one of the best artist in Kenya,” says Cyrus.

"It's been a long journey filled with challenges but there is no giving up until the goal is achieved,” adds Cyrus.

Despite his performance career facing myriad challenges like insufficient spotlight hence making it hard to earn a decent living from the industry, however, he is still stirring the wheel.

Cyrus earns from recorded spoken word pieces which he sells to his fans. Doubling as his own manager, he as well organizes his performance events which he also performs.

His breakthrough event was when he performed the 2016 Jamhuri Day Celebrations at Nyayo National stadium.

Cyrus has been featured in the local media stations and KTN's Life Style Programme especially on her latest single "MAMA" which he dedicated to his mum who went missing in 2014 with hopes that one day she'll listen to it and come back.

"You can watch my work on my YouTube channel, CEO Gudlyf, download any of my music at mdundo.com and reach me through my social media platforms,” he concludes.

Other songs he has done include My story, Nataka, Confused among others.
