Gubernatorial race in Nairobi

There is a stiff competition in the gubernatorial race in Nairobi having Peter Kenneth, Miguna Miguna, Evans Kidero and Mike Sonko as the candidates. It is clear that none of them is ready to transform the City of Nairobi following the recent gubernatorial debate.

The debate was a dismay as the candidates couldn't meet to our expectations as the citizens of Nairobi. Instead of it being fruitful it turned out to be an arena of abuses, knowing who has more money than the other, who is corrupt, and also blame game. We had an instance where the incumbent senator Mike Sonko blamed Governor Evans Kidero for not doing his work properly yet Sonko had an oversight role to play which he failed.

Good leaders should be good public speakers and also conversant to the problems affecting the people. The senator being a victim could not even interpret some Acts of the constitution.

To be a governor of city like Nairobi that is recognized internationally, one needs to have good communication skills so that he/she can adequately represent people or address properly the issues affecting the people.

What the candidates ought to have talked about were their different plans on how to transform the city of Nairobi to be a better place to be. They also ought to have talked about the problems affecting the people of Nairobi such as;

1. Inadequate social services like schools and hospitals

2. Poor garbage disposal service

3. Inadequate clean water

4. Inadequate public transport

5. High crime rate due to unemployment

6. HIV and AIDS pandemic

7. Poor drainage and sewerage system

8. Environmental pollution from industries

9. Traffic jams/congestion

And provide solutions on how to deal with them.
