PRESIDENT KENYATTA ASSURES EU ELECTIONS OBSERVER MISSION THAT KENYA IS READY FOR THE AUGUST POLLS.

President Kenyatta earlier on Sunday met with the EU elections observation mission in Nairobi. The meeting was held in state house and in attendance was the deputy president William Ruto. President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured the European Union Election Observation Mission (EOM) that Kenya is ready for the August 8 general elections.

The President said all the institutions involved in ensuring that the elections are conducted smoothly have done their part in readiness for the exercise. He stated, "We have already managed all the processes and resources set for the August polls. The IEBC team is also prepared as their offices are moving okay. The elections will not be interfered with since Kenyans are entitled to constitute their exercise to democratic rights."

In attendance was the head of the EU Election Observation Mission to Kenya, Marietje Schaake, accompanied by the EOM Deputy Chief Observer, Hannah Roberts, and EU Ambassador to Kenya, Stephano Dejak. The EU observers are set to meet NASA presidential candidate Raila Amollo Odinga with his colleagues and other presidential candidates to hear their views on the August polls.

Schaake said her team is happy with the preparations that are in place for the August polls and is keen to ensure that Kenyans participate in an exercise that is all-inclusive, free, fair and credible. Schaake, who is a member of the European Parliament for the Netherlands, was appointed by EU to head its team of election observers to Kenya.
