Why we should give Jubilee another chance on August 8

From the outset, the Jubilee government gave Kenyans one of the most promising manifestos since multi-party democracy.

Coming at the start of the implementation of a new constitution and the shift to the devolved system of governance, it is possible to lose sight of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s development record.

To start with, devolution in itself is a major success of the Jubilee government. Of course, devolution is provided for by the Constitution of Kenya. We however credit the Jubilee government with overseeing its successful implementation within the specified time.

This is a big milestone of the administration. Devolution has happened; there is no doubt that it has been a major game-changer in the public affairs of Kenya.

As any young Kenyan Woman would confess, top on the list of successes of the Jubilee government, is invariably the gains made in the health sector, more so, the gains in maternal healthcare that has seen thousands of deaths averted every year.

Thanks to free maternal healthcare in public hospitals, a sharp increase in safe deliveries in public has been recorded.

Progressively, the Government is edging towards vision 2030 by providing a conducive environment for both local and foreign investors.

The gains of the investment in infrastructure such as the ongoing development of the Port of Lamu, the Standard Gauge Railway, the road networks and power capacity in the country will be felt for decades to come.

There is no doubt that Vision 2030 will be achieved in record time. Despite the many challenges that have been faced by the country over the past four years, security of the nation has remained Jubilee’s top priority.

Admittedly, the threat of the Al Shabaab terrorists has significantly reduced in the past four years. Similarly, internal security has improved significantly. Education reforms and access to technology are among other key achievements of this government.

With the journey to a new system of education finally reaching its peak, there is no brighter moment for a Kenyan child than now. Despite facing a number of challenges, let us give Uhuru credit where it is due.
