Ababu Namwamba's Labour Party conducted most free and fair nominations

May 1st marked exactly one since I stood in the beautiful beach town of Port Victoria in the shade of the town's landmark tamarind tree and spoke about many things.

I stood at that respectable spot to remind the people of Bunyala West ward of the fierce urgency of change. I spoke about a campaign that I was going to lead; #MakeWestBest, which ultimately plunged me into competitive politics seeking to become the ward's MCA.

The climax of which was The Labour Party primaries held last Wednesday April 26, in which I emerged second of the three candidates on the Labour ticket. The concluded lengthy campaign has been a great experience having run with a pledge that we will improve the welfare of our people. Some might have believed us, others might not. But that is why it is politics.

When I started this campaign I knew that I will be wrestling established civic politicians. I also knew that I would be at peace with the outcome of the contest. That is why I can proudly say, we come out of this campaign well apprenticed with one election under our belt. That is not a mean thing.

In that campaign we offered everything that we had to offer. We may not have waged the strongest battle, but I have absolutely no doubt that we had a vigorous campaign message. We did extraordinarily well on substance.

Friends, I want to send my gratitude. I want to thank from the bottom of my heart, the young people who helped me start this campaign believing that I carried all their collective aspirations on my shoulders. Thank you. I thank the people of Bunyala West, all of them, who supported us and those who stood with our competitors.

It would be fatal for me to overlook the support of my friends. Some of you whom I have never met in person offered contributions to this campaign. So many of you set aside time to pray for us.

To my competitors; Mr. Tabu Were, who came top and Mr. Vincent Wanyama, it was a great honour to contest with you. I thank the Labour Party, and its leadership; most of all the party leader Hon. Ababu Namwamba for allowing me the chance to campaign on the party's banner.

I believe that Labour will grow to become a phenomenal political vessel. Ours was the most peaceful, even enviable process in the country, witnessing violent nominations exercise, from both the Jubilee and NASA camps.

For me, now is the time to look forward. In the words of Martin Luther King Jnr, "We must accept finite disappointment, but we must not lose infinite hope." The Holy Scripture says in the book of Habakkuk; " Write the vision clearly so that it can be read from a distance that time is coming, even though it may delay, it will surely happen. "

We have left an indelible mark.

God bless you. God bless Bunyala West.
