Severe scrutiny ahead of electionsas stakeholders partner to enforce leadership and integrity laws

The office of the Attorney General, EACC, the Director of Public Prosecution and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission will work together with the independent electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) to ensure compliance with chapter six of the constitution in preparedness for the next General Election.

Attorney General Prof Githu Muigai on Wednesday morning at Lilian Towers in Nairobi when signing the working group agreement said that they will be seeking to have full implementation of the leadership and integrity constitutional requirements in aspirant clearance.

"There are many people who have been convicted of offences that could be criminal and we will be in a position to have a database accessible to all clearance stakeholders, " said Prof Githu.

He added there is a likelihood to have candidates bearing academic documents which they did not earn and that will be able to be verified.

He added that all the stakeholders will independently execute their mandate but there is a need for collaboration as they had sought in the partnership on election preparations.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has said the group will seek to create awareness on integrity and leadership requirements and election laws and emphasise on the distinct roles of the election stakeholders.

"As we seek we enhance collaboration in the enforcement of chapter six of the constitution goals on leadership and integrity the public should be aware that there is nothing new as the requirements and election laws still remain the same and are accessible, " said Mr. Chebukati.

Arch Bishop Eliud Wabukala said the move was so timely affirming that EACC will support the move and take part in the process to ensure that the country gets servant leaders and live as a proud nation as it seeks to attain vision 2030.

The registrar of political parties will be part of the collaboration dabbed working group on election preparedness as parties gear up for party primaries.
