March 11, is the official date set for the commencement of an expanded 18-team league.
Muhoroni Youth and Sofapaka have been excluded for failing to comply with club licensing rules but KPL CEO, Jack Oguda insists that the fixtures might change depending on the outcome of the tribunal ruling on the two teams.
The only confirmed grounds include: Mbaraki, Chemelil, Moi Stadium, Muhoroni, Mumias, Awendo Green Stadium. Most of the matches have not been allocated venues yet, but will be communicated at a later date.
As a tradition, a week before the league kicks off (which is today) will see defending champions Tusker FC take on GOtv Shield Cup winners Gor Mahia at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru from 3 p.m. as they fight to clinch the Super Cup.
Unfortunately, sponsors of this league opener clash, DSTV have withdrawn their sponsorship, meaning this year’s Super Cup will not be televised, unlike previous occasions. This match was first slated for 29th January but was postponed due to FKF-KPL impasse.
