GIRLS IN RABAI SUBCOUNTY RECEIVE FREE SANITARY TOWELS

Several primary school girls in Rabai Sub County received free sanitary towels yesterday. This was as a result of donations from Pad a Dada initiative.
The adolescent girls from Lugwe Primary School and Kailo Primary School besides receiving sanitary towels were also mentored.

They were taught the importance of maintaining high standards of hygiene and how to monitor their menstruation cycle.

Pad a Dada Initiative is a Kilifi based initiative which had its beginning in 2014 with the major goal of helping all girls in Kilifi County and Coast region to have access to sanitary towels.

This is due to the fact that girls who cannot afford to buy sanitary towels end up missing up to four school days every month which has a negative impact on their performance.
Sometimes, they end up quitting school altogether or engaging in sexual activity in order to buy this indispensable commodity.

The Initiative’s founder, Pertronilla Nzomo Maria has taken upon herself to raise funds in order to buy these sanitary towels.

She does most of the fundraising using social media and participating in tournaments. Pad a Dada recently won a tournament sponsored by East Africa Breweries Limited where the entire price was used to purchase more sanitary towels.

“When you hear someone is fundraising for a particular project, it is not all about money. It about time, love and effort,” she said.

Since its inception, the initiative has reached out to over two thousand girls in primary schools and other three hundred in the villages. Petronilla expresses her gratitude to Halima Ali of Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevolkerung ( a German Foundation), and all her Facebook friends who helped Pad a Dada Initiative mission a success.
