Be warned, George Aladwa is serious about his threats and there are many more like him

While holding talks with the new IEBC Chief Executive Officer, Ezra Chiloba, Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga reinstated the need for a complete overhaul of the electoral commission - citing that he has no faith with the people who managed the last election.

According to information on Raila's website, the former Prime Minister told Chiloba that a complete reform of the IEBC is necessary before the next general election, and went ahead to warn of any possible eventuality if his victory will be ‘stolen’ again.

“The Premier explained to the CEO how eligible Kenyans have been disenfranchised in the past from the electoral process by denial of national identity cards and denial of the opportunity to register as voters,” the statement reads.

“He [Raila] warned against a repeat of the same, noting that there already exists what appears to be a deliberate ploy to deny national identity cards to eligible Kenyans in perceived Cord strongholds. There also appears to be little effort towards registering new voters in these areas ahead of 2017.”

There are millions of Kenyans who despite Supreme Court ruling on the validity of 2013 Presidential election, still believe that Raila Odinga was not fairly treated. Raila has lost three presidential elections, one of which ended up in a violence that claimed well over a thousand lives and saw over 660, 000 people displaced from their homes.

Electoral fairness doesn’t necessarily mean that Raila has to win, but somehow, his supporters want nothing less than a win in the upcoming 2017 presidential election.

In the recent past, Kenyans have been treated to numerous antics and hate speeches by the political class – including inciting messages to the members of the public. As Kenyans were celebrating Heroes Day, 2015, Former Nairobi City Mayor George Aldwa warned the Jubilee coalition of possible deaths and violence should Raila’s victory be stolen in the next election. “…for Raila to become president, some blood must be shed. We are warning them against stealing Raila’s victory in the upcoming presidential election…,” said George Aladwa.

In a bid to tame such sentiments, the government moved quickly to have Aladwa arrested, but as the say goes, “you can beat a person but you can’t beat the devil in him.” Apparently, the evil of anger over electoral “malpractices” is growing faster than the effort to contain it.

The future of Kenya appears bleak, especially, when it comes to peaceful coexistence. Slowly, politicians are busy drawing red lines on rocks and minds of voters, and somehow, the voters are believing every information they have been fed with.

This aggression does not only exist among the CORD politicians, but cuts across every political segment.

As the Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko moves to tame Aladwa, on the other hand, he is also trying to deal with Jubilee’s Moses Kuria who was tape recorded while trying to incite youth against “his” opponents.

In fact, Moses Kuria was caught on tape while instructing youth to cut with machetes everyone who was against President Uhuru Kenyatta’s agenda. More Jubilee MPs have since joined Moses Kuria in the agitation. But where are all these taking us, if you may as? Maybe, to the State House, but just maybe! Certainly, we are moving closer to the brinks of violence than ever before.

Kenya has become a suspicious country where our friends don’t trust us and our enemies don’t fear us.
