Uasin Gishu County: Kenya Power has announced their services will be cut in Eldoret town and its environs for the better part of Sunday.

The company’s official’s told the press Friday afternoon that there will be an overall power cut between Sunday 6.00am and 6.00pm within Uasin Gishu County as they work on upgrading their system and service quality.

Mercy Chesir North Rift Regional Customer Care Officer explained that the blackout should not be perceived by the public as the company’s failure to discharge its services effectively, since it is a major upgrade to the supply systems.

“We ask churches which dearly need electricity for their Sunday services, companies and also individuals to bear with us. This is a maintenance activity that will bring better services at the end of the day,” she stated.

Chesir disclosed that all major sub-stations will be switched off to facilitate the company’s engineers drawn from within the region and the headquarters to oversee the upgrade project that will last a maximum of the stated 12 hours.

“The upgrade of the system is aimed at facilitating consistent bulk supply to our high consumers without interfering with other users in form of power surges, our aim is to seal all loopholes that bring about preventable blackouts,” she added.

Together with other KPLC officials, Chesir assured Eldoret resident that they will experience better quality power in terms of lighting and operating other electrical equipment when the power supply is resumed Sunday evening.

“It may really look like an inconvenience to lack electricity for the entire day but the long term advantage is that quality supply will have been achieved after upgrade completion," she said.

The major sub-station near Moi University School of Aerospace Science where Rivatex Textile Company is situated and serves the larger Eldoret’s Central Business District (CBD) will be among the stations to be upgraded.
