Chinese who allegedly robbed a friend of Sh5,000 knife to know fate on July 29

A Chinese man accused of assaulting and robbing a compatriot with a knife over a Sh3 million is yet to know the verdict on his case after he gave the defence’s submission.

Guo Song had been contracted to supply sand and other construction materials to a company where his compatriot, Rongqing Tao, was working.

He is accused of invading Tao’s bedroom where he attacked him using a kitchen knife. According to the court documents, Guo stormed into Tao’s house on March 8, 2018 at South B with other two accomplices, who were not in court, and robbed him of his knife worth Sh5,000.

“Guo stormed into my house. He bumped into my wife at the door and asked her where I was and when he learnt that I was sleeping in my bedroom, he rushed to the kitchen area, snatched a knife and came to my bed. I overheard my wife screaming and that was what woke me up.

“I struggled with him and sustained injuries. My wife was not spared either as she was shoved away while he took flight. I believe he took my kitchen knife because it could not be found anywhere,” Tao told court.

During cross examination, Guo said he had been good friends with Tao for over a year and that he had gone to ask for Sh3 million the latter owed him. However, they got into a fierce fight.

Guo admitted spotting a knife but denied taking it.

Tao, however, told the court that he owed Guo Sh2.8 million and not Sh3 million as he alleged.

The matter was adjourned until July 29 when the judgment will be delivered.
