Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o is set to preside over the jury at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2024, as announced by organizers on Monday.

The 74th Berlinale, slated as the first major European film festival of the year, is scheduled to unfold from Feb. 15-25. This edition marks the final tenure of the current leadership duo, executive director Mariette Rissenbeek and artistic director Carlo Chatrian.

In a joint statement, Rissenbeek and Chatrian expressed their enthusiasm for Nyong'o's role as the jury president, highlighting her cinematic qualities.

"Lupita Nyong'o embodies what we appreciate in cinema: versatility in embracing different projects, addressing different audiences, and consistency to one idea that is quite recognizable in her characters, as diverse as they may look. We are happy and proud that she has accepted our invitation to be the jury president of the 74th Berlinale," read the statement.

Lupita, who secured the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2014 for her role in “12 Years a Slave,” expressed gratitude for the recognition.

She shared on her Instagram, "Excited to announce that I have been named Jury President for the upcoming Berlin Film Festival!”

Since then, Lupita has emerged as one of the most distinguished international actors, with a notable presence on the Broadway stage and as the author of the children's book “Sulwe,” which made the New York Times Best Sellers list in 2020.

Currently, she is gearing up for a podcast focused on non-fictional storytelling from the African diaspora. Additionally, she is actively involved in developing a series based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Americanah.”

Notably, Nyong'o served as the executive producer for the Sudanese film “Goodbye Julia,” selected by the Sudanese National Committee in exile to compete for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.
