One of the biggest sporting events in the world, the FIFA World Cup will be held in 2022 in one of the most advanced states in the Arab world, Qatar.

The Middle East nation will be the host of the tournament from November 21 to December 18, being the first time the tournament will be held at the end of the year.

Since summer temperatures in Qatar see highs of up to 43 degrees, FIFA concluded temperatures would be unbearable’ for players, thus settling to hold the showpiece event starting November.

32 teams will take center stage in the tournament which sums up to 65 matches, played in different parts of the ‘World’s Richest State’.

The tournament will be hosted in 12 stadia across different cities.

The smallest stadium has the ability to accommodate up to 40,000 people, with the largest boasting a capacity of up to 80,000.

The tournament in Qatar will go down in history as the shortest ever since 1978, lasing only 28 days after the November 21 kick-off.

Some European clubs, however, feel ‘disrupted’ by the placement of the tournament, which borders the January winter transfer window. They, will, however, will have to adjust their match day calendars to accommodate the World Cup.

The 12 stadia

A total of twelve stadiums are set to host the 32 teams.

The 12 venues have been distributed across seven cities, with the final game set to be staged at the iconic 80,000-seater Lusail Stadium.

These stadia are only 55km apart making them this most compact World Cup tournament ever.

Fans who plan to travel to Qatar in 2022 are in for a blast, with the State having chartered two cruise ships to accommodate an anticipated ‘over one million fans’ who are projected to attend the tournament.
