Team Kenya kicks off on a high at the IDPA World championships

Kenya’s Geoffrey Pesa led the Kenyan team in Kick - starting the 2019 SIG SAUER International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) World Championships being held in Talladega Alabama.

The reigning Pistol Carbine Calibre (PCC) champion who faces 93 other competitors in his category recorded good results on day 1 of the competition which begun on Tuesday Morning.

The expansive CMP range which is set to play host to approximately 1000 persons including spectators features 16 stages designed to test shooters fundamental gun handling skills and marksmanship.

Kenya is among the 24 countries taking part in the competition which brings together participants from diverse cultures and social backgrounds competing with the aim of bringing honor and glory to their countries and themselves.

The annually held competition features 350 Pistol competitors and 93 Pistol Carbine Caliber competitors of which Kenya is represented in both categories.

Kenya is represented by a team of 12, in Alabama. The already Slotted team members who will be taking part in the contest include 2 masters i.e  Robert Nyamongo and Sammy Onyango, and  the only Kenyan lady Elizabeth Wachianga from the disciplined forces.

The Kenyan team which spent 22 hours flying to Alabama  left Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for the world championships on the 21st October 00:30 hours and were welcomed to a rainy weather with temperatures ranging between 10 – 12 degrees in the Talladega Marksmanship Park.

The quadrennial IDPA event is the third World championship respectively. The subsequent championships were held in Sunny Frostproof Florida and Tulsa Oklahoma shooting academy.

The competition which begun Tuesday October 22nd at the beautiful CMP 500 acre range in Talladega Atlanta USA with the first PCC National championship will end this coming Saturday with a banquet in the same venue.
