A 56-year-old truck driver on Friday claimed a $298.3 million Powerball jackpot- the second-largest Powerball Jackpot in New York Lottery history.

David Johnson, who won the December 26, 2018 drawing with the numbers 5-25-38-52-67, and Powerball 24, decided to take his winnings in a lump sum payment, which after taxes and withholdings, nets out to $114 million.

Johnson said he did not realize he had won until a co-worker mentioned the winner came from the gas station across the street from where they worked, according to the state Lottery Department.

The Jamaica native still waited two days before taking the ticket to the store on his way to work, CNN affiliate WABC reported.

“I got a call that the winning ticket was sold at the store where I buy my tickets,” the Jamiacan immigrant explained.

“I went to the store and gave the ticket to the clerk to check. He scanned it and said ‘congratulations.’ I needed to see it for myself, so I scanned and saw it read BIG WINNER.”

Since he found out he had won, he said it’s been an exciting time.

“I can’t even eat. I start and can’t finish my food. I’m happy with joy inside,” Johnson said.

The married father of three quickly announced his retirement, effective immediately.

“I quit right away,” Johnson told WABC. “Right away, no delay."

Johnson had been sick for days, but had to go back to work in order to get paid on December 26. On that same day, he decided to buy a $5 lottery ticket.

Johnson said he will buy the red Porsche he has always wanted, “So everyone can see me when I drive on the street," WABC reported.

Johnson has hired an attorney to help him invest the money, but he is also going to have some fun, too.
