Dispatch from Dar: Tanzania Police preach road safety

Yanga SC of Tanzania

The road safety campaign in Tanzania is real especially along the highways. Tanzanian police officers neatly in white uniforms are taking to highways to preach road safety.

“I have stopped this vehicle to make sure each one of you know and respect traffic rules to save lives,” says one of the traffic officers who stopped our bus from Mombasa to Dar es Salaam in Mkwewe as he urged each one of us to tighten safety belts.

In Kenya, traffic police officers are quick in arresting those who have not tightened safety belts for prosecution and you can only buy your freedom after ‘talking nicely’. Kudos to Tanzanian traffic officers.

TZ fans love their Bongo teams

Talk of patriotism. When Kenyan scribers arrived in Dar es Salaam to cover the Sportpesa Cup starting tomorrow, they opted to visit entertainment joints to watch Saturday’s English football matches between Manchester United verus Brighton or Liverpool against Crystal Palace. However, Tanzanian love to their local teams was portrayed when most of the entertainment places opted to stream live on their screens Caf Champions tie pitting Simba and AS Vita Club of Congo, which the latter won 5-0.

Simba SC fans celebrate Yanga loss

Tanzanian football giants Yanga had gone for 19 matches unbeaten in the 2018/19 Mainland Premier League. However, the giant’s day of biting dust came on Saturday at Kambarage Stadium in Shinyanga when they lost to little known Stand United FC. The defeat was the talk of Dar es Salaam yesterday as fans from their rivals Simba celebrated the end of the road for Yanga’s unchecked run. However, despite the loss Yanga lead Tanzanian league with 53 points from 20 matches.
