Manchester United fans have a theory on why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sits in a different dugout seat to Jose Mourinho.

Fans became aware that the temporary manager was sat in a different area of the home dugout at Old Trafford following the mix-up with Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean forward was seen taking his manager's seat before being quickly ejected and returned to sit alongside the other subs.

In defence of Sanchez, the seat he picked would have been perfectly acceptable just a few weeks ago as Mourinho sat immediately behind the brick wall at the very front of the dugout.

Solskjaer on the other hand prefers to sit at the very back of the dugout, but fans on Reddit have come up with a theory on why he does this.

One wrote: "I think it's predominately for a better view of the game but maybe he's also making sure the players on the bench are paying attention.

"He always goes on about how, as a bench player, he used to watch the game so intently to find out how he could most hurt the opponent if he came on?"

This opinion does make sense, but another supporter made an even better suggestion.

"Sir Alex Ferguson always used to have this seating arrangement [as did most other United managers] so he's just learnt it from Fergie."

Solskjaer has never hidden the fact he hugely admires Ferguson, and has even invited the Scot down to United's Carrington training ground since getting the manager's job.

The Norwegian also admitted he has asked Ferguson for advice on picking United's starting line-ups for certain matches.

Solskjaer has made a very encouraging start at Manchester United and has won all six of his opening six fixtures in all competitions.
