Mauro Icardi has given hope to suitors Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid with the news he's 'far away' from a new deal at Inter Milan.

The Argentine striker's wife and agent Wanda Nara made the claims as speculation about a move to London intensifies.

Head coach Maurizio Sarri wants a new striker, with Alvaro Morata having failed to impress.

And Roman Abramovich is said to want to splash the cash on big name Icardi - who has a £100m release fee.

The Italian side are offering their captain improved terms as they are desperate to replace the current buy-out clause.

Icardi last signed an extension in 2016, and a clause detailed that he can leave San Siro to a club outside Italy for £100million.

And his wife - and agent - Wanda said of the negotiations: "The renewal of Icardi with Inter is very far away today.

Wanda is well known in her native Argentina as a TV personality as well as appearing on sports shows in Italy.

She added: "We are far from reaching an agreement, we have not yet received a satisfactory proposal from Inter.

"I do not deny that on any moment we can reach an agreement, but today we are very far.

"It is not logical to renew the contract for the amount of money that Mauro already earns. We believe that Mauro deserves more."

This will surely prick up the ears of Chelsea - who have also been linked with a move for Gonzalo Higuain.

Callum Wilson has been mooted as a possible signing this month, yet Bournemouth insist they have no desire to let the England forward depart - despite landing ex-Chelsea youngster Dominic Solanke.

But Mirror Football understands it is goal poacher Icardi who is the standout name at the top of the Blues’ list.

But they face a battle for his services.

Wanda added: "There are very important clubs interested in Mauro... the two most important clubs in Spain, with whom we have excellent relationships, plus an English and a French team."
