Women football: Trans Nzoia beat Eldoret to win battle of Falcons

Trans Nzoia Falcons continued with their winning ways with a 1-0 win over Eldoret Falcons in the Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League at Manor Agricultural Centre over the weekend.

Martha Karani scored the important goal in the 67th minute to give the home side maximum points.

With the win, Trans Nzoia remained in third place on the table standing with 47 points behind two-time champions Thika Queens who have 51 points and league leaders Vihiga Queens who have 57 points.

Trans Nzoia Falcons coach Justine Okiring praised his charges for a brilliant season saying they are looking to close in on the top two sides by the end of the season.

The Kitale-based side have only lost one match this season and have pulled some surprises - completing a double on Thika Queens and a famous win over defending champions Vihiga Queens.

“The match was difficult because our opponents had prepared well for us but our fans did well and we didn’t want to lose points at home. We have been picking points from our away matches and winning at home has been impressive too. The season has been good for us and we are hoping for better things ahead,” said Okiring.

The tactician is however worried of the sides’ top scorer Tumaini Waliaula who is set to sit for her KCSE next month. Waliaula has scored 22 goals this season.

Okiring’s counterpart Joshua Ariko admitted that the match was difficult.

“The match was tough. We had our chances but we never used them fully. They got their chances too and utilised it. The match official was biased making some decisions that were not on point,” he said. [Rebecca Jebet]
