Cristiano Ronaldo's future remains in question, following his Champions League final insinuation that he won't be at Real Madrid next season.

According to the Manchester Evening News, that has put his former club, Manchester United, on red alert that he could be keen to return to the Premier League.

Ronaldo made clear to teammates his desire to leave Los Blancos in the weeks before the Champions League win over Liverpool in Kiev.

As such, Madrid players weren't surprised by his Ukrainian outburst immediately after the final whistle, when he declared: "It has been very nice playing at Real Madrid. In the coming days I'll give an answer to my fans, they've always been at my side."

However, they were extremely displeased that he had gone public at that particular moment.

Ronaldo has continuously been linked with a return to Old Trafford ever since his then world record £80m switch to the Bernabeu in 2009.

Earlier this month Fabio Capello claimed the Portuguese legend 'has his heart set on a reunion with Jose Mourinho', while reports from Spain suggested the forward is pushing for a move himself.

The report in Marca suggests Ronaldo is unhappy at the club and wants a new contract which would see him paid as much as Neymar and Lionel Messi.

However, Real Madrid are reportedly reluctant to discuss new terms before they appoint a new manager following Zinedine Zidane's surprise exit.

That means his desire to exit has taken something of a back seat, particularly with Madrid officials said to be furious at his attitude.

Additionally, given his €1bn release clause and his age, those at the Bernabeu appear comfortable with the situation and it's claimed there is confidence that he will remain at the club.
